This week we focused on BYOD (Bring your own device) and its application in the classroom. This was a discussion-based lesson, where several great points were bought up. We discussed the difficulty of incorporating BYOD in schools as students will have different brand computers, which means not all apps and websites will work across all devices. Furthermore, services that do work across all devices can sometimes be very expensive, and schools may not jump to purchase them, meaning alternatives must be found. This doesn’t even consider the fact that the teachers will also have to be across these services, as well as be adept at using multiple brands of computers, and dealing with students who use a tablet instead of a laptop.
All these are valid points, and while BYOD is a great idea as not all school can afford/have adequate computer rooms that are always accessible. Although these were all the main points covered, this is a very important and interesting discussion that needs to be discussed, especially for schools.
